MINDER 092 - BOSA
Ahead of their 5th birthday party at The Jazz Cafe Mogadisco’s Bosa has dropped us a beauty of a guest mix for Minder mix ninety-two. We first came across Bosa when he was on Giles Peterson’s Worldwide FM and we’ve been following him closely since then. Here’s a lovely bio he sent over to us in his own words which explains everything better than we could.
“Born and raised in South East London where I currently reside. I've always been a music lover and that was why I promoted One of Manchester's best electronic music events: Selective Hearing. The event ran for over six years and held events in Bath, Leeds and London. Check the facebook page for the plethora of electronic artists and DJs that were booked. People from Juan Atkins to Bok Bok, from Kyle Hall to Boddika, from Shy One to Akkord and many more.
I'm also a resident DJ and owner of the original African clubbing and music event: MogaDisco. Before Moga, there was no clubbing event in Europe exclusively playing Highlife and Afrobeat. We are five years old this year and will be celebrating the event at London's Jazz Cafe on April 1. We've done radio shows on Worldwide FM, Soas Radio and Rinse respectively and have played in Accra, Brussels, Hamburg and are playing in Berlin in June 2018. We've had DJ sets from Miles Cleret the boss of excellent label Soundway and Quentin Scott of Strut records.
This mix is all vinyl and mixed on an E&S Rotary Mixer I managed to get hold of for the day and had never used one before (or since). It was a lovely experience as there are no faders. (Even though I prefer a mixer with faders). This presented a nice challenge, but I feel it was a good mix.
In terms of genre, I'll just call it House. I do stretch the boundaries of Electronic music and play a wide selection of tracks because I buy a lot of records. DJing is really useful as it helps arrange the collection in terms of what is cohesive with one another; resulting in much sharper and better mixes/mixing.
Thanks Minder for reaching out.”
